The albums of all time!!!
Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) by Kali Uchis
There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I love Kali Uchis, but maybe Spanish would suffice. This was the album that ultimately got me hooked on her music, and she's been my #1 artist on Spotify ever since. This album's sound is like sparkling pink champagne, so delightful, bubbly, and sexy. Like her other albums, she brings you in with a smooth and chill sound and closes things off with some reggaeton bops. Standout songs are aguardiente y limón, quiero sentirme bien, telepatía, and la luz (Fín). For more, I recommend ORQUÍDEAS, her dance album.
Wasteland, Baby! by Hozier
Everything Hozier has ever made is a masterpiece but if I had to pick one of his albums to loop for the rest of eternity, it would be Wasteland Baby. Best listened to on a gloomy fall or winter evening. No Plan, Nobody, Talk, and Would That I are standouts on this, but it's honestly a no skip album. His songwriting skills are unmatched, and every song feels like the horniest prayer ever uttered. I also highly recommend his debut album, which is a close second for my favorite of his discography.
Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii
No one is doing it like Doechii is!!! I've been a fan ever since I got introduced to her banger Yucky Blucky Fruitcake, and this mixtape is just the greatest culmination of her sound's evolution. Her flow is honestly astounding and addicting, and her lyrics are endlessly fun. Her swamp Florida aesthetic makes me go feral as a Floridian. Standout tracks are BULLFROG, DEATH ROLL, BOOM BAP, and BEVERLY HILLS. Each song perfectly blends into the other, making it a really satisfying listening experience. I can't wait for more from her.
Big Ideas by Remi Wolf
She's fun, she's funky, what isn't there to like? Pitchfork described Remi Wolf's genre as "whimsical alt-pop" that bounces between "disco beats and reggae grooves, 1960s soul and 1990s indie folk" and I can't think of a better description. In this album, her usual silly style is married with raw songwriting to make the perfect combination of emotional glam disco. Standouts have to be Cinderella, Toro, Cherries & Cream, Pitiful, and Frog Rock. Cinderella was my #1 most played song of 2024 because it's just that cheerful and addicting.
Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay
Synth pop straight from the simulation baby!!! If you're into the technical side of music, this album might blow your mind. As a casual listener, it feels like a spiritual awakening and a revelation. HTHAZE's commentary on this album gets to everything I want to say about it but don't have the language for. The sound is divine and enchanting, and the transition into the more rock-influenced sound in the second half is amazing. Standouts are Death & Romance, Vampire in the Corner, Love is Everywhere, and Angel on a Satellite.
